Julian, and Sylvester Johnson. Grace attended schools in Irvington and earned a Bachelor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy degrees from BUTLER UNIVERSITY.  In 1887, she married Charles B. Clarke.

Grace was an active clubwoman in local, state, and national organizations. She founded the Irvington Woman’s Club and helped to organize the 7th District Indiana Federation of Clubs. She was president of the Indiana Federation of Clubs and was a board member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She also served as president of the Local Council of Women.

She often lectured on behalf of WOMEN’S RIGHTS AND SUFFRAGE. She supported that cause as an officer of the Woman’s Franchise League and as the first president of the Legislative Council of Indiana Women.
